How Chiropractic helped personally:
When I was a senior in high school, I was involved in a motor vehicle accident where I flipped an SUV five times and totaled the vehicle. I went through the entire medical route from the Emergency room, Primary Care Physician, Orthopedist, Neurologist & Physical Therapy, etc., trying to find a solution to my pain (headaches, neck, shoulder, lower back pain, sleeping problems), with little to no results. I suffered for almost a year with no relief! After trying numerous over-the-counter medications and prescription medications my medical doctor told me I should see a Chiropractor. Thank goodness I did! The Chiropractic Physician examined me and then proceeded to x-ray me. He then explained why my problems were "physical" and not "chemical", and why the medications were only giving me temporary relief and not fixing the true problem. He designed a treatment schedule for my specific problem. After a couple of treatments, I noticed that I was not having nearly as much pain, my headaches were decreasing, and I was finally beginning to be able to sleep again. A couple months went by and I noticed that I had not had any of the symptoms that I had previously had. My quality of life was much improved! It was at this point and time I realized that this was a profession and a lifestyle that I wanted to be a part of. This is when I dedicated my life to becoming a Chiropractic Physician and helping others through Chiropractic Care.

How Chiropractic helped personally:
I was involved in a car accident in 1988. I was a junior in high school, driving home one night and was stopped waiting to make a left turn. From out of nowhere, a full size pickup truck struck me from the rear end. He was traveling at 50 m.p.h. and I was stopped. I went to the hospital immediately following the accident and many doctors told me that I just had whiplash. I saw the Emergency Room Physician, the Radiologist that read my x-rays that night and an orthopedic surgeon a week later. They all reaffirmed that I had whiplash, but my pain was not going away, it was only getting more severe. At this point, I was taking several different pain killers and one strong muscle relaxant.
Only after I started to lose the use of my hands, did I find Chiropractic. After performing an x-ray on me he found out that I had broken my neck that night. He referred me to a Neurosurgeon who decided that the break had started to heal on its own and it would be too risky to do anything to it except watch it heal. I returned to the Chiropractor that found the break and he was able to adjust the vertebra in my neck which not only reduced my pain, but gave me the use of my hands back. That encounter is why I am able today to help others and hug my children at night.

How Chiropractic helped personally:
When I was 18 years old, I injured my back while water skiing. After a week of agonizing low back and leg pain, I went to a doctor who referred me to an orthopedist and later to a neurologist. After an MRI, I was diagnosed with two herniated discs in my low back. The pain in my back began to radiate down to my right lower leg. The pain immediately impacted every aspect of my life. I could no longer play sports or be active with my friends. The pain was excruciating. My leg not only hurt when I was active, but, even more so when I was sitting. Sitting through my college classes was almost unbearable and concentrating on my studies was nearly impossible. The strong pain killers and muscle relaxants I was forced to take further impaired my efforts to study. After months of prescription drugs and two epidural steroid injections that did more to further disrupt my life than ease the pain, I was willing to try anything. I was quickly scheduled for back surgery. While the surgery was beneficial in relieving the pain, I had lost an entire semester of college to the procedure and rehabilitation.
I am an avid sportsman and golfer. I grew up in the Pee Dee area and love it here. I was raised in Latta, SC. After high school, I attended Clemson University and graduated with a degree in Health Sciences. I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. Throughout my career I have wanted to return to the Pee Dee region. I am happy to be back where I belong and doing what I love, helping people through Chiropractic.
